The Gathering

Not a Conference. A Communion.

If you have never been to Spirituality & Beyond, there is probably one question you are carrying: is this a conference?

Not exactly. It is a community gathering.

The difference matters. At a conference, speakers talk and audiences listen. Ideas move in one direction. The networking happens in the lobby and mostly does not. You leave with a badge lanyard and a full inbox and maybe a business card that you will lose in your jeans.

At Spirituality & Beyond, the schedule exists to serve the people in the room. Talks open into dialogue. Speakers sit in the audience for the next session. The makerspace and the vendor market and the backyard community stage run all weekend as spaces where the in-between conversations can happen, because those conversations are part of the point.

This is the sixth time the Church of Ambrosia has built this thing. It has gotten better every year. Here is what you can expect in 2026.

Before You Arrive

What to Bring and How to Prepare

Come Open
This is not a spectator event. You will be invited into conversation, reflection, and community. Bring your willingness to participate, not just observe.
Dress Comfortably
The main stage and backyard are both active spaces. Layers work well; Oakland weather in early April can shift. There will be sitting, standing, and moving between rooms.
Eat Before You Come
The venue is in a neighborhood with food options nearby, but once you are inside, the programming moves. Come fed and hydrated so you can be present.
Bring Cash for the Market
The Indigenous-centered market and creative makerspace curated by Xochitl Bernadette Moreno runs throughout both days. Some vendors may not take cards.
Plan Your Days
Saturday runs 10am to 6pm on the main stage, with the Shane Mauss comedy show at 8pm (separate ticket). Sunday runs 11am to 6pm. Friday evening is the opening ceremony. Check the full schedule and decide which days matter most to you.
Leave Room for the Unexpected
The backyard community stage runs open programming all weekend: music, workshops, “Men & Psychedelics,” “From the Hood to the Woods.” Some of the best moments happen in the spaces between scheduled events.
