How to Store Your Sacraments
Proper storage protects both potency and safety. Psilocybin degrades from four enemies: moisture, light, oxygen, and heat. When stored correctly, dried mushrooms maintain potency for well over a year. When stored poorly, they can lose potency rapidly or develop mold.
Dried Mushrooms
Store in a cool, dark, dry location at room temperature (60-70 degrees F).
- Use an airtight container. Vacuum-sealed bags work best.
- If you don't have a vacuum sealer, use glass jars with rubber-sealed lids.
- Add 1-2 new silica gel desiccant packets to absorb any residual moisture.
- For maximum potency: vacuum-seal with desiccants and store in a cool, dark place.
- Properly stored dried mushrooms last 1-3 years.
Do not refrigerate or freeze mushrooms. Opening a cold container in a warm room allows humid air to create condensation on the mushrooms, promoting mold growth and degradation.
Capsules
Store at room temperature in airtight containers, away from light.
Expected shelf life: 6-12 months.
Chocolates
Store at 60-70 degrees F in airtight containers, away from light.
- Do not let them exceed 75 degrees F. Melting causes uneven psilocybin distribution throughout the chocolate.
- Refrigeration is acceptable but may cause white "bloom" on the surface. This is cosmetic only and does not affect potency.
- Use within 6 months for maximum potency.
Gummies
Store below 70 degrees F in airtight containers with low humidity.
- Freezing can degrade potency.
- Use within 1 month.
The Golden Rule
The four enemies of psilocybin are: moisture, light, oxygen, and heat. Protect against all four and your sacraments will remain potent for the shelf life listed above.
When in doubt: airtight glass jar with a desiccant packet, dark cabinet, room temperature. That works for nearly every form.
